There is a lot of misinformation regarding molded plugs spread across the internet with little to no actual basis in fact!  So let’s nip this one in the bud, molded plugs are perfectly safe and must conform to BS1363 to be sold in the UK.
So what caused them to overheat?
There are two main reasons, both of which centre around oxidization of the fuse and its connectors.  The primary cause of this is moisture ingress due to condensation, less often this is caused by a loose fuse.  Over time, both causes result in overheating and failure. We would recommend, as part of your weekly spa maintenance, unplug and give the fuse holder a visual inspection.  If you find that the fuse or holder is blackened or slightly melted the plug should be replaced before further use.
